TL-M0-15 · Docker memory for the local Supabase stack
Why: The local Supabase stack runs about a dozen containers, and Supabase suggests a machine with at least 8 GB. In TL-M0-01, Docker had 3.8 GiB.
ID TL-M0-15 · Level L0 · Run order row 15
Docker has as much memory as this Mac can spare for the local stack.
Before
Section titled “Before”TL-M0-14 is Done. Docker Desktop is running.
1 · How much memory this Mac has
Section titled “1 · How much memory this Mac has”sysctl -n hw.memsize | awk '{printf "%.0f GiB\n", $1/1073741824}'2 · In Docker Desktop: Settings › Resources, Memory limit. With 16 GiB or more, set it to 6 GB; with 8 GiB, leave it as it is (TL-M0-16 then starts fewer services). Apply and restart.
Section titled “2 · In Docker Desktop: Settings › Resources, Memory limit. With 16 GiB or more, set it to 6 GB; with 8 GiB, leave it as it is (TL-M0-16 then starts fewer services). Apply and restart.”3 · Confirm
Section titled “3 · Confirm”docker info --format '{{.MemTotal}}'docker run --rm hello-worldExpect
Section titled “Expect”- Block 1: the Mac's memory, for example 16 GiB.
- Block 3: the new limit in bytes (close to 6000000000 after raising it), then “Hello from Docker!”.
Block 3 is the check.
If it fails
Section titled “If it fails”Docker Desktop doesn't come back after the restart: quit it and open it again, then run block 3.
Set the Memory limit back in Docker Desktop's settings.
